Hi Folks, I came across the news about the usage of lidar in the new apple products. I saw the ipad pro tear down but didn’t find more information on this product. I know the usage of lidar in automotive but this is something new and interesting (I’m sure it must be the early trials on the AR). I’m curious to learn more on this, did anyone know who is the supplier for lidar ? (I can open their site and learn more) like qualcomm for modem... or any web pages/sites for lidar in the consumer handsets (not automotive lidar) #apple
A lot of phones have 3d cameras these days ......effectively lidar. My note10+ has it. I imagine iPhones have it too.
You are talking about 3D depth sensing camera, (not lidar) which is more effective and having disadvantages for some applications
Semantics..... They both project a pattern of dots and either use time of flight sensors or scanning sensors to create a 3d topographical map with varying resolutions. Time of flight sensors are pretty common in high end phones. I believe scanning sensors are nearing deployment in phones...
Suggest to watch the 2-hour wwdc 2019 keynote. Lidar was mentioned somewhere there.
