I applied for Senior software engineer role and end up getting Site reliability engineer role offer. Comp is similar for both position but I’m not sure if I should take this offer. My current position title is SDE but I do somewhat mixture of SRE and SDE TC 130k / 3yoe
SRE is good . You don’t want to prepare system design for future rounds in future if you know how systems works at large scale .
Check how easy it is to move between the roles and between teams. Generally sre options are more limited. If it's easy to switch, no problem!
I am SRE at Apple and spend most of time making tools for production team to improve efficiency and process. So SRE job depends basically on team. Check with hiring manager about roles and responsibilities and join if it excites you
Usually it depends. I would recommend to check with the hiring manager about responsibilities first.

Why is it so G*damn difficult to move money out of India
SRE is a pretty good gig if done right. SRE usually do lots of distributed stuff if you’re into that.
Thats what I’m doing right now, so it make sense they offer this position. However I kind of learned that SRE could be really bad depends on how their practice and thing like that... So kind of scary to just take it
Pay is the same for SE/SRE at the same level. In my org (CPU) - SRE doesn’t do much coding. If they code it is scripts / maybe tools. They spend most of their time on networking & dba stuff
