PillPack team at Amazon

Amazon recruiters have been sending a lot of emails to see if I’d be interested in applying for Software Developer position at Amazon. I received around 12+ emails (including follow up emails from same recruiters) in the past 2 months. I was also reading a lot of posts on blind about PIP culture at Amazon so I never showed any interest and ignored all the emails so far. The latest email I received is from PillPack team, so I was wondering if this team would be any different and would like to know if it is worth giving a try. Thanks in advance. YOE: 3+ years TC: 130K

Don’t trust blind blindly. There are lot of good teams out there More people more BS that’s why you hear a lot. But experience yourself before you get caught in the noise

10/10 advice. Definitely devote years of your life to ‘experience yourself’ so you can realize there was a reason an overwhelming amount of people told you it would be a bad idea

There are a lot of good teams anywhere. The point is the majority of them are bad and the parts of the culture this guy expressed he wanted to avoid will be prevalent.

Quota is for all the orgs. Why do you expect some team can be different? Discussed with some amazon managers, they don't want to pip either. However, if they don't do, they will be piped. But you still can give a try as your TC will be doubled. Nothing to lose, if you got piped after 6 months, then have another 6 months of free time to find another job.

So is there something like a rule for managers to pip x percentage of people per year ?

LinkedIn dbjfjhghaj Sep 26, 2021

Of course. You need to give x percentage of team members a low review score. Based on review score, your upper management and hr will ask you to pip. You can argue your team has all rockstars, but cannot do that every year. Otherwise, why do some managers want to hire for pip?

The PillPack org is just as Amazon as any other team. Same URA quotas, same burn and churn culture.

Goldman Sachs LovePizza OP Sep 26, 2021

What is burn and churn culture ?

Amazon rhinofun Sep 26, 2021

0 WLB. Everything is always an urgent deadline while everything else is on fire.

Pip generally impacts low performers. If you have a tendency to chill and not care about being a top performer then don't join.

Dude Amazon sucks. If you can pass our interview, you can work somewhere else

More like PIP-pack.

Amazon Bello674 Oct 3, 2021

Amazon is rotten from the top down and no Org is exempt from the mandatory URA quotas and PIP addicted backstabbing despotic management culture. Your best bet is to get the interview experience and a great Amazon offer letter - then use it for entry TC negotiations at literally ANY other employer. It is the way.
