Oracle announced they are moving their HQ to Texas. HPE and Tesla are also going to Texas. Will the other companies follow? Would you move out of California to Texas? https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/11/oracle-is-moving-its-headquarters-from-silicon-valley-to-austin-texas.html TC: 270K
Makes perfect sense for legacy companies, expect more moving soon. Looking at Cisco, western digital et al
Agree with WahK19 above. I used to live in the Peninsula and always wondered why so many legacy companies hogging real estate that does not belong anymore.
I hear so many good stuff about Texas
California is a business hostile state + personal tax unfriendly. Any large legacy company should be move out, they save on facility expenses, payroll, taxes etc. people follow jobs, not necessarily cities California treats their tech incumbents like shit too lol. Anti trust investigations (Google) and SJW measures (Uber, DD etc.) Austin, TX at least tried to protect its in-house ride hailing app, even tho it was bleh.
I am hiring in Austin, DM me!
Texas sized bananas?
It’s just the non innovating legacy companies. Also Larry is a trump supporter, so he needs to go anyway.
Says the girl about to be bought out by a crm company.... maybe you should go!
this is true. hpe and oracle are not exactly blazing new tech. its the schumpeter way and anyway silicon valley is more a mindset. i do see the mindset active in the physical valley, so thank you. oracle move is more about politics than any economic reality for even oracle share holders. continue to believe what greg abbott says and praxton does. its people who believe in this bs who give these people power. and all politicians are alike - politics needs opposition and so a power balance is needed in CA and in TX. unfortunately the US primary system is unlikely to allow this..
I’ve moved to TN, wfh anyway
Who wants to live in a cesspool? Why pay 3 Million for a house when you can buy the same square footage for an eighth of the value? Why pay 12.3% taxes and see it wasted by stupid politicians? Wake up California is dead!!! You want freedom, no government hassle than leva Ethel cesspool
“ Why pay 3 Million for a house when you can buy the same square footage for an eighth of the value?” You must be new to real estate, I’ll give you three words: location, location, location
@settings1 Twitter has WFH forever right? What location benefits do you have by staying in SF Bay?
There's 2 things going for big tech moving out of sf area: 1. Giving them options to cap TC 2. Gaining a more competitive workforce access
TX resident here. When you guys move here please don’t bring your CA drama and policies with you for the love of god.
What am I saying you’re gonna do it anyway
Come on Texas ppl drive like shit
They are moving their Headquarters, not their operations. Tesla and oracle are still in the bay. Remote work is very unlikely to be the norm, neither workers or businesses want it and when once reopen workers will want it even less. Stoked for the folks that do want it and are ok with the tradeoffs but the majority will flock back. Human nature won't change due to a pandemic imho.
Ok boomer
Am a boomer, but tell me where I am wrong?
