average manager age at fb

was scrolling through linkedin and noticed that fb managers are so young. i see a ton of them that have 3 years of expereince out of undergrad. how do fb employees feel about that. has it helped or hurt the company?

We've got tons of older managers and ICs as well. But they tend to be in infra not product.

Quora is worse, some managers only 1 year out of college.

At least for engineering this isn’t true. Almost always you need to be an E6 before you can become a manager, and even for people with a rocketship trajectory this takes around 4 years. There are managers in their late 20s/early 30s though

This is a huge problem. You have to go through six weeks of bootcamp as a SWE no matter your years of experience or level. You can become a manager overnight with just a few years of experience and no training. This can be a disaster. Often an inexperienced manager’s first instinct is to micro-manage. They also tend to play favorites with their friends or reports that are like them. Good luck to you if you are different then your manager- older, different gender, different race, different previous company. This combined with the PSC process that favors people that are friends with their co-workers and think just like the rest of the group can lead to disasters.
