Couple of months back, I got a job at Amazon, I was told the office would be in Bellevue either the Everest building or Tower 333. My lease is coming up in Cincinnati and I have to make a move at the end of October. I just can't make my mind of whether I should go for Seattle or Bellevue. I would probably be living alone (I would love to have a roommate but it's been hard finding one so far!). My budget is flexible and the only thing I really care about is living in a lively neighborhood, since I have heard it gets dark in Seattle and I don't want to get depressed living all alone in a non-lively neighborhood. I would also use public transport to commute so something which is well-connected really helps. If this matters, I'm 26 and getting married next year so my wife would probably come over at the end of next year, I do not plan to stay in the US for long term so want to enjoy the time that I have here. #housing #seattle #bellevue
Capital Hill neighborhood in Seattle is plenty lively
Yeah with protests every other day
Yeah, I regret moving here. Do not come here right now. I heard SLU is fine, but even then idk... I'd prob just go to Bellevue for now
This is mostly a debate of taste. There are plenty of people on either side of the debate. There are pros and cons. It just depends what you’re into. It’s best for you to come stay in a hotel or extended stay and experience what you want before committing to a 12-month lease. Usually young, single people prefer Capital Hill area. Young couples seem to gravitate towards Ballard or Queen Anne neighborhoods. People who don’t like to commute and prefer a higher quality of life will move to Kirkland/Bellevue.
I have a really good friend living in Capital Hill, maybe I can lease an apartment there for 6 months and then see how things go. The first 3ish months would be WFH so I won't be commuting anyways and from all the comments here it seems like Seattle is more lively
Bellevue is classier imo but more boring according to some fellows. I would choose to live in Bellevue since it fits my lifestyle more. If you live near downtown Bellevue there are many nice/luxurious high rises with great views. There is a mall with bars, coffee shops and a pretty nice park. Also, you don’t want to commute and cross the bridge every day. It sucks during rush hours, though you are likely to wfh till next summer. If you are into partying or meeting new people I suggest to live in Seattle, though ubering back from Seattle to Bellevue is cheap and like 10 minutes away in the weekend at night.
Uber to Bellevue from Seattle on a Saturday @ 2AM is def not cheap.
Before corona the 520 and I-90 bridges could get pretty jacked up traffic wise. I think you should live in Bellevue, you have to go to work 5 days a week (assuming WFH ever ends) and you can Uber/Lyft to Seattle on the weekends.
I have the same decision to make and have a similar timeline for the move (early November). It comes down to your lifestyle and what you're looking for. All I care about is nice restaurants, good safe neighborhood and some trails/lakes to go to. So I'm choosing Bellevue. If you're looking to go out more and have a more lively lifestyle, Seattle's for you.
bellevue. seattle is just 20-30 mins away by one of those express buses.
Simple answer: Seattle

Lively = Seattle. Worth the extra dollars. Nothing Bellevue has that you can't get in Seattle :)
Except for good Indian food
Agree. I still go down to Bellevue for good Indian food
