Hello team blind, Need some advice. I've applied for senior SA (L6) but got an offer for SA (L5) with a total compensation of 250K. Compensation wise there's no improvement, but Amazon experience would add value to my resume. So, is it worth taking up this role or wait out the cooldown period and apply again? Will my current L5 offer/interview be considered and become a hindrance if I interview for L6 again in a year? YoE - 20 Current TC - 250K Current role - Senior SA consultant to federal govt #tech #downlevel #amazon #aws #offer
If you want to job and like the compensation, take it. One thing you may be overlooking, is that there is way less stress performing as an L5 vs an L6. Take 1 year to get used to things, then use the second to begin building up your promo.
Thanks. Are you specific to SA role when it comes to stress? I've read on blind that L5 engineers have higher stress than L6 engineers.
L5 SA here. Very less stress I would say. It's like getting paid for eating sugar candy. AWS is my passion area anyways, and the only goal/task/kpi I have is to learn more and more aws and help customers. :)
Same happened to me. Got to l6 after exactly one year. But knowing what I know now I should have not taken it. It was obvious that I did not lack any qualifications. You have 20 years of experience. You should be performing at an L7. Some BR idiot thought that you do not meet the bar somewhere. Fuck them. Wait 6 months and apply again. Work on the stupid LP examples and show scope at the VP level.
Thanks. I’m with you on this. You did make a quick move from l5 to l6
Yea because I was obviously raising the bar. I want to punch the BR in the face!
Have fun with awesome builder lol
SA here. You didn’t meet the bar for L6 but thought you were good to bring on as L5. It’s somewhat up to you. Assuming a good team and you work on it, promotions usually take 2 years from SA L5 to L6. But you will be bottom of band as L6. If you decline, there shouldn’t be anything stopping you from applying to other positions now. But, would take some time to work on things you think you struggled on during interviews vs diving right back into it.
Thanks for your perspective and pointing out that I'll be at the lower band of L6. Not being in the job market for a long time did partly affect my performance. I'm thinking of working on my weak areas and re-applying later
Good thing is you have options. If you wanted you could take l5 for now, leave in a couple years for a competitor, then boomerang back for higher band l6.
