big house or best weather ?

if you had a remote job, and you are not tight to your current location, would you choose some state with affirdable housing (say TX, GA or OR, etc) close to best schools, or farther from the scools in a village-like place on several acers or best weather in expensive places like San Diego or Bay Area or best weather in California, but farther from overpriced location, etc. Share your opinion.

Why not have both. There are plenty of cheap lands with good weather. Go north of SF like 200 miles. You probably can get a decent house with less than 500K and similar weather.

We all need a city from time to time for various reasons. I don’t think 200 miles north of SF is a very good location to live

Texas or Georgia

Good schools if you have school going kids now or in the horizon. Else, optimize for good weather and lower cost of leaving. There should be plenty options such as Collarado or Florida or Hawaii.

Location location location

The question of this topic is which location is to consider when you are open to any.

Yep understood, which is why I proposed picking the best location you can afford (in a big metro area) and not a big house in the middle of nowhere.

What if you lost your job? You'd be stuck in the middle of nowhere. If you could be sure you'd keep your job, I'd move somewhere like Ventura. Nice weather, beaches, you can travel into LA if you need a big city. It's far enough and LA traffic is bad enough that it's not really a commute town, but you can easily go to LA on the weekends if you need your big city fix. Because it's not a commute town, prices are cheaper.
