HM ran out of questions in 30 Minutes - Bad sign?
I’m a third-year lawyer at a big law firm (HYS for college and law school, if it matters). I’m trying to transition to in house at a tech company but am having trouble finding roles for someone as junior as me. Ultimately, I’d like to transition to a business role within a tech company. Any advice?
And Blind probably isn't the place to learn about that transition. consider staying in law and applying your skills to AI integration instead.
What? This is perfectly fine place to learn about this.
Tech probably isn't the best place to be right now.
I recommend connecting with folks in legal counsel at big tech firms through LinkedIn. Although the folks in big tech legal are always the bottom of the barrel, so fair warning that you might not enjoy the crowd as much.
Corporate Development departments at enterprise size tech companies are filled with lawyers. Try Corp Dev.
OP do you mean in-house counsel or switch to software engineering?
Are you doing M&A work? Your best bet is to apply for relevant counsel positions to get your foot in the door then try transferring to other roles. You typically need at least 5 YOE at big law, but you can try looking for associate counsel positions.
Tech isn’t the best place(currently) so the bar (association) is where I go!!
We have an open role and an internal mobility program that would let you move to another role later, if you didn’t want to stick with law. https://boards.greenhouse.io/creditkarma/jobs/5759718003
Look into HR or Compliance teams to leverage your 3 years. Bonus if you already focus in employment law. I see chief of legal and Chief Compliance Officer in several in my clients' ATS implementation. These are industry agnostic making the corporate world your oyster!
Go into a business role then.
