Questions for SWEs Are you guys getting the full amount of the 15% bonus or is it very rare? How much % is usually the salary increase? #software #engineering #swe
I got 150% individual last year.
Individual performance varies based on group and your manager. A lot of groups underfunded it last year. Getting the full bonus was considered exceeding expectations... Don’t count on it in your TC.
This. If you MEET expectations, you are eligible for 90% of your individual total. So .9×75. If you EXCEED, its 100% or greater of your individual target.
Been at T-Mobile 3 years now and got more than 15% every year
I’ve always gotten my minimum bonus since moving into a bonus eligible role ~6 years ago. Company performance over 100% plus manager discretion to award higher than 100% for individual component also helps to offer the number
Thanks what is the performance rating system like and how does it tie to the 0-200% percentage?
The company performance component is driven and weighted by five different metrics: operating free cash flow, total service revenue, branded net adds, adjusted EBITDA, and adjusted EBIT. It’s ranged anywhere from about 150% up to about 190% in recent years. So of your 15% bonus, 25% of it is driven by company performance. Easy example would be: 100k salary. 15k standard bonus if both components were at 100%. But say company performance was at 160% instead. 15k*.25 is 3750. Then 3750*1.6 is 6k. So your 15k bonus is now 21k assuming you don’t get beyond 100% of your individual component (the other 75%)
The 15% of salary is divided into 25% & 75%. The 25% company component was 157% this year. However, it has been on a declining trend YoY, even before merger. Post merger I expect it would decline further. The 75% individual component usually averages at 110%. Anything above is for top performers. I have never heard of it being > 130%. Salary increases are usually peanuts. 95% of the folks average between 1.5% to 3.5%. Anything more is usually to backfill and make sure that your salary is at-least average of the level you are in the org. So don’t get too happy if you see more, it just means you were already underpaid and they are making sure you don’t realize it sooner or later.
Thank you !
Maybe no bonus this year, due to merger
There are lots of people that get 130-150. You know who they are.
Wow atleast in Engineering and P&T i have not heard of it as being the norm. 110-120 is the average. Anything more is special circumstances.
TSDO Target is like 95% for personal. I don’t know why. But that’s what I’ve been told. My personal was 110 or 120 last year. I can’t remember which. It it’s always in there somewhere.
I was placed on an NGS last year, and got 50% of my employeee portion. It’s the people like me who mouth off to their manager that allow others to get more than 100%.

Last year the company component was 157%
What does the calculation look like for 157% company? Let’s say 15% target bonus with 100,000. Is it 1. bonus = 100,000*(1.57*.15) 2. bonus = 100,000*(.157) Also how does individual perf rating cause it to flatline or grow?
Out of 100% bonus component, 75% is individual performance and 25% is company performance. Last year the company share was 157% and individual share can vary from 0-200%
