I got nest doorbell and outdoor cameras yesterday. Their quality isnt the greatest but i dont really have strict requirements. Just want something to monitor the house when im away But i see some other brands have 2k quality. I’m worrying the nest tech is outdated and they’ll release new ones and I regret the buy. Anyone compared it to other brands? Do you have eufy/arlo and do you find their quality worth it?
Ubiquiti is the only answer. Quality, locally hosted, secure.
Eufy - it has solar outdoor cameras and work great. It does not require monthly cloud subscription.
Are you trying to see who is taking a dookie in your front yard or protect gold bars? My house came with nest, I don't want to pay for the subscription so only get events which are basically a few screencaps that expire after 6 hours. Half the time the event doesn't even capture what I want, like one time I had a missing package that was marked delivered and it didn't even find the mailman (another package in that shipment was received otherwise I would have assumed they never came). Bought a standalone eufy cam too, quality is much better, no subscription but it fried the SD card within a few days. So idk both seem kinda shit, although might just need a more premium SD card
Ring is not bad but it's only a matter of time before Amazon F's it up. I avoid Nest because Google is a privacy invasive monster and the last thing I want is to give them streaming video to analyze for advertisements. The DIY options and such are good. You should also place at least one or a couple of non network "trail cams" that store photos locally. Pro thieves will jam your Wi-Fi and cellular and cut your network connection to disable your ability to set off an alarm or record them. In that case you will still have some photos of what happened from these offline cameras, though you will have to physically go to them and retrieve the images via USB.
Arlo - they aren’t in it for your data as Google and Amazon are. The hardware is generally top notch. I’ve got 4 of their Pro5 cameras powered by solar. With the solar panels I never have to worry about recharging. I’d avoid Eufy as it’s a Chinese company, even the embedded software running on the device is developed in China.
None of the above
Uh oh Full on ethernet infrastructure or nothing?
Find something that supports ONVIF or RTSP video transport. I believe Dahua and Hikvision have a doorbell camera product.
