Bay Area - How much do you pay in rent?
Why did super apps never take off in the west? E.g. equivalents of WeChat, AliPay, Kakao, Grab, etc. Facebook kind of tried this with Messenger but it didn't gain significant penetration. What gives? #tech #productmanagement My guesses are 1. Too many different entities each wanting to own the entire customer journey end-to-end. For example, JP Morgan isn't ready to let Apple control their customer journey. If you've ever had to do a third party integration, it's hard enough to do between technically capable startups let alone legacy corporations. 2. Apps in Asia run with government blessings.
Great observation and question, following. Would love if there’s research on this: I’m sure many have an opinion but it’s probably a similar theme as mine, yours, and the commenter above.
WeChat is iMessage , Alipay is ApplePay , Kakao is WhatsApp , Grab is Uber+UberEats+CornerShop
WeChat is so much more than iMessage
I want to be involved in this conversation too, but I know even less. I'm just here to make you read this comment because you were a jerk to amzmk 😂
I'm assuming some governments prefer one super app, cause it's easier to track and censor people.
Facebook/Messenger is a super app. Social network, messaging app, payment app, shopping app. Plus they own Whatsapp, which does most of the above too.
Arguably we already have a super app - it’s called iOS :)
I asked our leadership this exact question a few years back. She seemed convinced that consumers here don’t like super apps. Outside of Facebook I am not sure anything like this exists
The iPhonification of America
They don’t convert as well. All the big companies have tried them.
CX compromises can't be afforded here Customers are very entitled Super apps require the customer to spend time n effort to learn the ecosystem and use it. Western customers typically don't like complexity and want to have things as simple as possible. Go open any frequently used app in US, tell me how many clicks does it take before you complete your intended action on average?
