Should I upgrade my personal laptop?
Current specs: MacBook Pro Early 2015 i5, 2.7, 8GB RAM 256 GB Thinking about getting: MacBook Pro Mid 2018 (latest?) i7, 3.4, 32 GB RAM 1 TB SSD It’ll cost me about $2,000 if I trade in my old MacBook. I have no real complaints atm, I just plan on taking some of my personal projects more seriously in the near future (typical local development processes running, maybe some very light model training. I also plan on adding a third display) And TBH wanting the space gray has a lot to do with wanting this upgrade. What should I do?

I have a 2015 MBP as well. How long do these things usually last before they kick the bucket?
I bought refurbished 2015 pro in 2017 and still using it for my dev stuff
Yeah, I think of my machines as 2-3 year machines, but I always buy refurbished and try to get a good price then just ditch it when it starts to feel sluggish. Also, hopefully your company provides you something higher end.
