Have offers for both. Jane Street 1st year comp is much higher but don't wanna miss out on Databricks upside either Databricks: 135 base 10% perf 1570 RSUs/4yrs @ $177 25 signing TC: 243 Y1 218 recurring Jane: 200 base 100 min bonus 75 signing TC: 375 Y1 300 recurring YOE: 0
Just 6 months ago, the new grad offer was the exact same but, 5550 stock units.
That's like almost every company that got reevaluated
Yeah last time it was ~43 per share
Holy shit why are these companies paying so much! Faang ng package is not compatible at all!
Jane is the new big payer?
Jane comp was always like this
Jane because more guaranteed TC. Since you seem to already be at DB, you should think whether you like the environment and the people in roles you're in line for, etc. DB has more appeal to the tech crowd but Jane has its own allure...
Tbh I think it depends on what you like more and what is better for your long term goal. Also the exit options like if you wanna jump ship after a year or two
That's also what I'm unsure about.. Are the exit opportunities going to be significantly different?
Some say Databricks is the next gen "top tech," personally it seems highly unlikely it is another pre-ipo fad that dies after a few months. Meanwhile JS one of the hardest SWE positions to get into and one of the best names in the finance world. So either way if you want to jump ship you have the pick of the litter. If you're into finance or want to continue doing trading systems, fintech then JS is more relevant, but even then, JS opens doors to traditional tech and finance, while DB only opens doors to traditional tech.
Databricks valuation would need to more then double to even match Jane St. Their most recent round was 38 billion? Basically would need to match current Snowflake market cap, and Snowflake has better numbers. Doesn't seem worth it, purely on comp.
Which location
SF/NYC
NYC? Is this for engineering?
You’re set for life if you go to Jane street whereas databricks after cliff & ipo you may want to switch
Speaking from a purely financial perspective, Jane Street is way better. Don't just think about new grad TC, also consider your TC growth. JS has great pay raises - one of my friends there with 5 YOE makes 1M. While Databricks has a lot of smart folks, I think Jane Street talent bar is higher too. You can still go against this if your gut says so. You'll be rich either way haha.
That's what I'm leaning towards as well, although from what I've heard the difference between an average and top performer at Jane is huge
Ftw is your friend quant or swe ?
You forgot to mention databricks stock growth potential
At least 60x the next year
Troll more, but s double on 28b is very reasonable
