Can anyone tell me what it's like to work at Pivotal Labs? How is the structure of the day, pairing all the time, having a set schedule day in day out? How's the work? How do devs and designers collaborate? What's the distribution of work experience?
I worked with them as a client a while back. They are amazingly talented. I was a little surprised at how structured and somewhat restrictive their work environment it is. I think a lot of people wouldn't be happy in that.
Best job I've ever had from a company culture , work/ life balance perspective. I worked at several startups and tech companies in the Bay and I feel more at home at labs than any of them. Really smart people without a lot of the arrogance you encounter at good tech companies. What office are you looking at?
Designers do pairing too?
Yes - everyone pairs. From time to time you may not have a a dedicated pair - but it's rare
"it's not for everyone" Understatement of the month.
Care to expand on that?
Have you tried pair programming? They do it close to 100% of the time, on shared screens where both are locked to the same view. Can't think of another place that adopted it to that extent. Though not sure how pairing would be like with design.
Hi pivotal people I'll be interviewing with cloud foundry for sw developer role. In their screening they ask to do pair programming exercise (mostly implement set). The interviewer does typing. I wanted to know what do they expect from candidates - come up with test cases, optimize code etc. Any thoughts Also how's onsite
Hey..I have the same question. Did you get any answer here or anywhere else? Please let me know..I am in so need of this.
Paired with pivotal engineers in the past. They are some of the smartest engineers I've worked with. Most of them know more than one programming languages and they often cross pair their engineers so they learn new language/technology. That said, it's not for everyone. It's 9 to 6 every day with 1hr break in between. People rarely look on their phones or browse the internet.
What were the interpersonal interactions like? Was it a fun group to work with?
They were all personable but you don't really talk about things outside work. i.e no politics talk, sports score discussions etc.
