How many years of experience and skills it takes to reach TC:200k in pharmaceutical field? Appreciate your input. Thanks! #j&j #bms #merck #Novartis #Pfizer #healthcare #health etc...
With bachelors or masters?
I can't answer your question. But shouldn't you give a dept/niche of the industry. "pharma industry" is incredibly broad. Is it pharmacovigilance , clinical research, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, business development, ...
I have nine years of experience in clinical operation with a 190k base, probably 250k TC. Agree with the above response to this super broad question. Different departments are paying differently due to competition in recruitment. Also different workload.
I would say 1. manufacturing and 2. process development as niche.
I am at BMS and hit 200k TC last year. 7 YOE with an MS
Also in manufacturing
What level are you?
Depends on role, dept, scope. For me, quality of life is so much better than being an overworked grunt like in tech. Global mgr It level, 200k TC (so yes, it's quite lower than tech, but much higher than other industries still) Source. Ex Amazon
Tech in pharma about 10 years SM. Really varies if you are talking starting out at same company or being hired from outside
What was your case like? Feel free to share your experience to help each other out. Thanks!
YOE is only one variable. The most important variables to increase TC I would say are: how rare and in demand your skill set is, who you know and have proven yourself to in the field, and how much you are willing to hop between jobs to increase your TC. I am at 8 YOE with an MS after working at 3 different large cap pharmas and hit TC 205k. I also know my current VP because he and I were scientists working at the 1st employer doing a niche laboratory skill that is in high demand (niche enough that I can't say what it is here but you get the idea). I am a sr. scientist in early drug development btw. My advice would be to learn a skill that is in demand (or get very good at it if you already know one), pay attention to high-performers you know at work who leave and go somewhere else, and don't be afraid to hop to another employer to increase your TC (especially if you go somewhere a former high-performing colleague went that can refer you in and go to bat to the hiring committee for you). Good luck
I have 6 YOE and with in a big Pharma as an AD. I make 209k TC
