Feeling stuck due to job hopping

Hi Blinders I need help in deciding to stay at current company or leave. I have job hopped in past as new companies (faangs) gave me good sign-ons 60k-75k and with annual cliffs if I changed right after I complete one year I could make more money. Greed eventually made me land at wrong company called Lacework which has no path to IPO. Stock options are underwater 😔. Now stuck with low TC. Should I stay at Lacework for 1-2 more years or LC and GTFO? First company after graduation: 7 years Second company (FAANG): 3 years Third company (FAANG): 14 months Fourth company (Tier 2): 11 months Fifth company (unicorn): 17 months Current company (Lacework): 2 months The previous FAANGs are having layoffs and have tough interviews - LC hards. Now I am more into systems design than grinding LCs. What should I do? Stay at Lacework for a year or two or keep interviewing. Will the Hiring Manager be OK with my past? I really want to work for Nvidia, Roblox, Snowflake, LinkedIn, Netflix, Uber, Google and Cruise rather than traditional FAANG (google being exception). TC: 260k (base + annual bonus) options value is 0 YOE: 12 #amazon #tech #aws #microsoft #faang #google #meta #facebook #apple #netflix #salesforce #lacework

Try to stick for at least 18 months..honestly if I get your resume as HM, I wouldn't even interview you (sorry to be direct) because of all the job hopping - you are flight risk

What if there's a toxic culture? What to do in that case?

Fohr mBgY42 Apr 5

Dang really? I’m nervous about this… what’s the “ideal” resume look like to you? No short stints at all?

Amazon vadak Apr 5

Wow 260k after 12 years!! That's lower than entry level positions now.

How many companies out there are paying 200k+ for entry level roles?

Lacework lwsucks OP Apr 5

The offer was 450k. My base is 225k and 35k is annual target bonus. Stock options are under water. Feel bad for myself

Amazon Bidenomicz Apr 5

If someone is willing to hire you for a better role why not let them? Loyalty to a company in this environment is moronic.

I cancelled my Nvidia interview last month as I had just joined LW

Target XlTl73 Apr 5

It’s not too late to call/email Nvidia and let them know you changed your mind.

Also are you living under a rock for wanting to work at Google? It's not cool anymore! We have moved on from believing in Google.

@Meagen you have another thoughts?

interview while working. it depends on the team, but should be fairly easy to coast. I dont think your resume would be any red flags. just be upfront to recruiters and say it's drastically different from what you expected. bright side is, you were probably interview prepping 2 months ago, so it should be fairly fresh. Did you get any other job offers during your job search then? you could also try reaching back out to those companies.

I have heard only bad things about Lacework. No shame in leaving.

What’s bad about it?

Why not try applying places and see what bites? If nothing good bites, wait a bit and then try again

I generally try to stick out a year anywhere I go. However, wherever you end up next I think you need to stay minimum of 2 years, so plan your next move well.

I see people hopping jobs and still landing great gigs all the time. I realize some hiring managers still care about this but I’m not sure that the vast majority do. At the end of the day you have to do whatever is best for you. You got this.

While multiple job hops are negatively looked at, my observation has been that indian managers hire indians, and chinese managers hire chinese. It might work differently at big tech like Facebook or Google where there are hiring committees and hence the job hopping bias. HMs hire people who they can coach and milk. So if an Indian manager thanks to cultural affinity sees potential in me that I can be milked then he will absolutely let me in. Again it depends on my interview performance, my skillset and most importantly the level at which I am getting hired. Hiring is a lot more blackbox than you think it is.

I'm in the same boat as you. I got suckered into believing this company was a rocket ship but I've watched it slowly sink into the mud. The best thing to do is practice interview questions every day to stay sharp, apply to every job and take every interview. When the right job comes along you'll be ready to crush that interview.
