That Chinese dude that cost me my Onsites SWE rounds at Coinbase, if I ever come across you in my interviews.
I'm looking into learning a new programming language and I'm torn between Python and Ruby. The goal is to get a job at a startup; Stripe is the main goal. Does anyone know if its actually fun to code with? #programminglanguage #python #ruby #careeradvice
please let it 🪦
I love ruby but python is more relevant
Don't really! I used to do Ruby luckily I stopped and moved on.
Knowing Ruby will not help you 1 bit in getting a job here. Knowing it really well will help you after you get selected surely. Half of Stripe uses Java and Go btw.
learn PHP
Better learn rugby
Learn Rust
I like Ruby but don't bother if your goal is getting jobs at top startups in the fintech space. Just do Python and Java.
If your goal is to get a job at a startup, I’d recommend going with Python over Ruby. 5-10 years ago Ruby was a top choice for startups but it’s fallen out of favor since then. It’s not a bad language and lots of companies use it (even for new projects) but Python has a much more significant presence these days. Additionally, there are a number of popular disciplines (like machine learning / AI) where virtually all the work is done in Python.
