career advice for someone from non CS background
I need career advice for a very good friend. He does not have a degree in CS but after his Phd in Biology extensively worked in Machine learning domain in few healthcare startups for 4 years. Good in programing so I advised him to prepare Leetcode and elements of programing book but now I am doubting if I guided him properly. I have not prepared on leetcode, been in the same company for 18 years so I am not sure how hard would it be for him. Any suggestions for him? Can he transition to CS and clear interviews in software companies? any personal experience?
I think anyone can do just about any position they're motivated to get. But I do think no matter what they will hit a wall compared to people with an extensive CS background. I think it will be difficult to become more senior in technical merit-based orgs without going into management and maybe that's the goal in which case this makes sense.
