How big are the balls of Google to lay off thousands and then do 70 BILLION in stock buyback?
hi everyone, im currently a financial consultant but realllly trying to teansition into product management. i genuinely am confused on how to make this transition so your advice would be a HUGE help. i have 1 YOE and an MS in info systems management. thanks so much. willing to work for start ups etc to make this a reality
Thank you for the advice Amazon!
Given your consulting background, recommend PM roles at companies that are more business and metrics-driven. I made the transition a few years ago and write about my lessons here: productlessons.substack.com
Some of the big tech companies hire for associate PM roles based purely on the outcome of case style interview. Prep will be heavy lift but if you can do that the only hurdle left is getting the interview which will be a mix of getting a referral and putting together a decent resume. All the best!
With 1 yoe experience just focus on getting in a product role in any company of any size at any level which gives you PM responsibility. Prep for pm interview is all over the web. ATB
Silly question but what types of product roles do you recommend?
Whatever gets you in the door - in the current scenario with just 1 yoe - it will be tough to get a foot in the door. So be open for multiple areas decide when you have offers to choose from in terms of what appeals to you the most. For your first 3 years of your career your reporting manager is more important than the company or the specifics of the role.
