cash bonus @ amazon

does Amazon give cash bonus after the initial 2 years? #compensation #bonus

No they don't. Annual raises are very low as well (0-2%) depending on your performance. Note that you don't get any insight into your performance evaluation or its result. If you are in top 5% of people under your senior manager you will get goood number of additional stocks as well.

No cash bonus after 2 years. Annual raise is from 0% to 5% not sure where @nlgw83 got that 2 percent range from. Stock refreshers start in year 3 depending on performance.

I think you are right about the 5% but I think to get anything more than 2% you need to be a top performer under your senior manager. Minor but importance pieces of information to add about the stock refresher. 1. Amazon has a CTC number in head when they offer stock refreshers or raises. So if stock price goes up during your time with company then according to them your CTC for 3rd year went up because value of your initial grant has gone up. As a result they will give you lesser raise and fewer stocks than they would have if they didn't take initial grant and current stock price into account. So for eg. when I joined Amazon 4 years ago stock price was around 700 USD. I was given grant according to that price. But during my tenure with Amazon stock doubled and tripled so I never got additional stocks despite my performance because my expected CTC was already being met. 2. Stock refreshers are given generally in April. They start vesting in skip year over a year. So if you were given refresher today in 2020. Your first vesting will be in May 2022 and second vesting will happen in Nov 2022. Basically you get paid for your performance 2 years later.

5% isn't a hard limit btw. I got 8% as HV+ in 2018

I have heard your pay can drop substantially after year 4 if your initial stock grants appreciated a lot.

Microsoft xCox Jul 11, 2020

Yes. That can be true. Though if you’re a high performer you’ll get a lot of stock and promo. I had 8 years running of better and better pay before I hit a cliff. Then again MS even with appreciation you’re virtually certain to hit a cliff after 4 years

Microsoft notok Jul 11, 2020

Microsoft will do the occasional ssa to keep you happy. In general though the fact that they don’t use your previous years grant appreciation to reduce your stock grants is a big plus for msft vs Amazon. The whole balancing TC across years is BS.

We should just make this a faq sticky. Everyone asks the same thing about amazon.

Amazon bCIP83 Jul 11, 2020

The long short of it is: Amazon doesn’t expect you to stay. They don’t care if you leave. So leave - get a higher TC elsewhere. While I was lowballed by Google, the refreshers and raises each year we’re fat. The stock I was given each year was fat - it was a very cushy place. I left to Amazon to build a new business unit, and though I am paid well, I see the cliff coming and recognize I can’t stay.

Every hire is a crapshoot to them. If you don't get promoted in 4 years, you drop to frugal pay levels and they don't care if you walk.... likely the next one they hire will be better.

My feeling is that the amazon doesn’t give a f to L5/4. We are even less valuable than the robots in the warehouse. However, amazon loves L6 and PE a lot
