Racism towards Indians
I am deciding between Google Bay Area and Meta in NYC. I’ve already accepted the google offer but the meta offer came in after my deadline. I am considering reneging because I’m a new grad who went to school in the northeast so a lot of my friends will be in the area. Worth the renege?
Don’t renege on Google. You don’t want to be black listed.
Hard decision! Google is one of the like 5 companies that will pay better then meta, reneging could close an important door. On the other hand, if you think you will be miserable in the bay maybe it’s worth it
Be with your friends
NYC is a shithole
Only in the winter. Summers are awesome
yeah, only half the year sucks. well except for the trash everywhere, that sucks year 'round
Is that a Google L3 offer? Did you do an internship?
Yea L3 returning intern
OP: What if your friend’s more to Bay-area? Also, google has office in NYC, North Virginia . Check if your manager is willing to allow you to work from there
nyc sucks - for some reason others like the congestion, sky-high prices, and lack of natural beauty. If you are extroverted and want to party then ok, you will enjoy
Beauty is highly accessible and in the eye of the beholder. Drive or train in any cardinal direction 20+ mins out of the heart of NYC metro and you’re swimming in state parks, reserves, heavily forested areas etc. Just takes a bit of imagination and a map. Totally recommend the cloisters(part of met museum) in north Manhattan fort Tyron park for a quick city fix. I also recommend Inwood hill park, it’s quite different from Central Park and the trails are nice, screams old New York too. NJ,the garden state, has Liberty State Park, 1500 acres of conserved land with natural floral and fauna, views of downtown Brooklyn, downtown Jersey, downtown Manhattan, and even midtown with trails, access to Ellis island, and the Statue of Liberty all for a 15-20mins ferry ride from financial district. Perfect for a light afternoon, birdwatcher, arborists and plant enthusiasts. Haven’t even touched Brooklyn yet and you don’t need to go deep into upstate territory for an adventure. People kill me with the concrete jungle stuff. NYC, like any city is what you make it.
Go on with Google, and be intentional about making new connections and involving yourself in your new communities in the Bay Area. Talk ahead of time about where to live, where to shop, where to go have fun, hike, meetup groups for sports, professional organizations — take this chance now. You can always find a way back to the northeast but take this opportunity and go.
Jesus. 200k is fine in nyc for a new grad. Y’all need to touch grass
