How to invest in India as an NRI?
What would it cost to move a 4 bed house and 2 cars to Sea from San Jose? Has anyone done this? Planning to move but I know my team won’t pay for it? Is the pay (base and stock), same between sea and bay for most companies? TC: 350k
Bay Area cost of housing is still 2x that of Seattle.
My quotes have been from 3-9k
If Facebook offers FedEx or UPS discounts, check how much it would cost you to ship the boxes instead of hiring movers. A friend recently shipped 40 boxes (40lbs each) via FedEx for $1,200, when the lowest move quote he received was over $3,500. Moving the car will be about $800 each, although I suggest driving down one of the cars since the distance is not that much.
Good, I like idea of using Fedex until we know price of item is less than shipping cost. Would you recommend selling beds, furniture as they won’t fit into Fedex 📦
In this case most of the furniture was from Ikea. There was a high risk it wouldn't survive the move any way, so the friends decided to sell/giveaway/donate them and buy new ones at the destination. Mattress are quite cheap in this day and age, you can easily buy new tuft & needle ones in 700$ or so. It's literally not worth moving them in most cases unless they are custom made for medical purposes or have high sentimental value for whatever reason.
Trust me don’t move to Seattle. You will regret it. No money is worth this climate. Btw, I spent around 7K in total for the move for the stuff you are talking about. If you are going to ask a company for relo allowance, 10k would be more appropriate.
I prefer the weather here and so have many of the transplants from CA I've met here, although I'll be the first to admit that's biased data as most people who really hate this weather REALLY can't stand it and end up leaving asap so 🤷♂️
I miss Seattle weather badly. I enjoyed the change of seasons. The past several years summer/fall were amazing.
Relocated from San Jose 2bd apt plus 1 car (shipped) was under $5k. Pay is slightly lower than bay from what I've seen but is more than made up for by significantly lower cost of living and no state income tax. Always have to hold my tongue when people here complain about housing prices.
Seattle and the Bay area are quickly becoming the same from a cost of living perspective. Ultimately you and your family need to determine if it makes more sense to be in Seattle. So you should consider what qualities of life you looking for. The cost to move is chump change if you are being paid $350+. To answer your question, you should be ok moving to the Seattle area and buy a home assuming you aren't under water in your current home (and you aren't in significant debt)
