i work as a product head at a startup for last 2 years. in jan one of my ex-manager’s manager (VP) reached out for a director level at a tier 2 company. due to work life balance and my company wasnt having hyper growth, i accepted an offer from them under the condition they let me join in Apr after my i-140 is approved (indian) from my existing company. come march, due to covid my perm got approved but i-140 premium was stopped. vp was very graceful and told me they will wait. we kept in touch during this time.. hr, recruiter and immigration worked closely with me to get transfer finally done. i work closely with the founders in my present company and they are very helpful in general but because company missed targets for q3 and q4 i didnt the resources i needed to do my job and ended on doing 3 people’s work in the last 8+months. anyway now the transfer is done and i broke the news to the ceo that i am leaving due to multiple reasons including finances + visa + work life balance. here is their counter offer 1. since i am on h1b and can build profile slightly to apply for eb1, founders gave me an offer to help me with that. so in couple of years no visa issues 2. rentention bonus of 100k 3. hire resources to help me with my job but because i already accepted my new offer, i told its not fair on my side to not join my new company and they have started my exit process.. but deep down i feel i finally have a chance to overcome my visa issue once and for all.. what would u do? curious to know if i left any option on the table.. new tc: 340+ sign on 100k current tc: 200k+ paper money worth 700k
Yeah, agree with the previous post. Eb1 is good i think. Visa issues are definitely tricky. Better to earn less money in the next 2 years and get a stability in status rather than looking for a higher pay or better company.
Not too keen on money either but I feel it’s not fair to not move to the new company.it feels like an afterthought to ask for eb1 and typically big companies don’t have it as part of negotiations and refer me to immigration team
In any case, understand what your goals are, discuss with family, and go ahead with the decision that benefits you as well as doesn’t hurt others
Do you qualify for EB1? Many companies say yes and then they realize that you don’t qualify and back to square 1. I you qualify I would take EB1 as compared to higher pay.
I kind of do.. will be a bit of help in profile building.. had my own company in India for few years and went to top 3 B school so kind of qualify if I can get some help in building references here.. I am more worried about burning bridges
EB1 is also in a bad shape - currently 2017 going on. Why not earn more and go via eb5?
Really tricky situation to be in unfortunately. The new company has waited for you for half a year and if you bail on them now, it will do irreparable damage to your relationship. Ask the new company if they can help with the EB1 too
