I am from the same country that I am talking about. I am not gonna take names here for the fear of getting banned but seriously we’ve ruined the work culture for everyone. We’ve made a mess here, and we’ve made a big mess back at home too. Please do not ruin the work environment for the feeling of envy or whatever it is for the onshore team. It’s been the worst experience working with offshore guys. Being counter-productive for each other is the reason we’ve been a developing country forever and never a developed one. If you cannot collaborate, at least don’t be counter-productive to the collective health of team. Thank you. Rant over.
Details please. How was the work environment ruined?
Those guys act like animals, they sign up for working 12 hours a day and then expect onshore team to follow as well. They create a skewed perception of “hard working” and expect everyone to abide by those. And the quality of work they do is so shit that literally you wish the entire code to be rewritten within next 6 months because it’s not extensible.
I am curious to know about your working model between onshore and offshore. In my previous companies, offshore was essentially delegate work from onshore teams. You give them something that’s not mission critical and completely independent in terms of delivery. It seems in your team you have given them something that is either mission critical, dependent on onshore or both. You should try to reconsider the work assigned to onshore, if you can influence that. If you are in no power to influence, change to a team that does not have an onshore offshore model.
I see a rooster from the east is walking here (I’m from there too
We haven't ruined the work culture. The employers ruined the work culture by hiring us. They should've known better, or adapted early on. No need to victim blame ourselves. Employers wanted to save 💰. It comes with consequences for everyone
Agree
Agree with this, it depends on a number of factors. One fantastic offshore team I've worked with is EPAM Systems (Belarus). Those guys were rockstars. At least the team I worked with at a previous company
Firstly , I don't see enough details on your post. But if you are generalizing that all offshore teams have to work more than 9 hours , it is not true. In my team we are told off shore team will not work over time nor work beyond 9 to 5. If anything onshore folks should wake up early to be Abel to meet them. I think it is just company or team dependent
I’m with you OP on this, I got into this situation from Microsoft. They didn’t even tell me there’s so much offshore in the first place, on top of it the meetings and everything in the late nights, & early mornings. It sucks, I’m scared about our tech jobs here in US and lot of people are not aware until they’re in that situation.
