Layoff through rto. Amazon led the first wave. These are just copycats
Roblox: we never endorse remote working.
Roblox: Our revenue driving employees are unpaid child laborers
Roblox: We think that everyone needs to communicate virtually effectively irrespective of where they are, which is why we built this platform. Employee: cool does that mean I can work from home? Roblox: no bring yo ass back into the office
A little internals. Roblox hired aggressively and replaced a whole bunch of executives who were over-leveled. These executives realized that you didn't need to produce (what has Roblox done in the last 3 years? It's the same thing), as long as you stroke the CEO's ego. So they brought all their friends in. CEO believed all that Metaverse hype (yeah, they some virtual office get together thing before I left) because he desperately wants to be the next Zuckerberg. So, nothing gets produced, drinking buddies get hired, all work is geared towards making Dave happy/stroking his ego, and thus no innovation happens. So, with close to 3,000 employees, they are producing far less than when they had 500 employees. And they are not entering really any new markets outside of exploiting children too poor for consoles and stupid enough to think virtual hats mean anything. So, they start doing layoffs. Explicit ones first - recruiters, people connected to China's initiative. But the execs have a dilemma - how can they protect their frat boy buddies but still have layoffs. Turns out it two fold - they willfully ignore the upcoming mass exodus of pre-IPO employees who will fully vest their pre-IPO stocks (and whose refreshers are priced too high) as those were not hired by frat boy execs. And make it hard for all remote employees, who, since they are remote, are not bad buddies with the execs. And then they are letting people go who most people know are hard working, coming up with excuses to let them go to keep their friends. FYI why am I "ex-Roblox" ,I reported discrimination (because buddies, along racial lines, were hiring their own race and forcing out/firing other races), and that meant I was to be forced out (various retaliation techniques that a lawyer said was provable). Look for more layoffs. This culture is obviously not going to produce anything and the only way to keep their stock price high is reduce expenses, as growth is tapering off.
It's not a secret: https://blog.roblox.com/2023/10/future-work-together-roblox/
This isn’t really a layoff but implementation of RTO.
Which is a layoff. Because they are letting people go who were previously approved / hired for full remote. Only exceptions are CEO's drinking buddies.
