Hi! š Not sure what Iām expecting for feedback. I just went through an on-site with Hippo. 2 LeetCode mediums, 1 system design, engineering manager, and final meet with CTO. I did have some hints for the coding exercises but I was able to do them in time. System design was basically āwhat is a queue? What benefits do queue provide?ā Feedback was I did well, I lack work experience, I should reapply in a year? I did the on-site and thought it went well. My call with the CTO was scheduled a few days after, and I thought it was straight forward. I also interview ppl for my current company. If a candidate can actually code, seems ok to work with, and has worked on a team before, weād hire them. Thereās always more places to apply, I donāt mind rejection, I guess Iād expected some flexibility in leveling? YOE: 5 TC 140
Why would they schedule a call with CTO if they donāt have a good feedback so far! Quite strange, seems like he is the one who made the final decision? How was that conversation.
Yep. I think something mightāve happened during that call. I prep more for technical exercises because I do feel a weak point in profile is the type of projects I work on and my capacity to lead features. I struggle to answer some of the higher level questions like what Iād want to work on in detail. Iāve been focusing on DDIA and LC because I donāt have a good answer to shore up work history.
If you don't mind sharing, would you care to talk about what were the coding questions that was asked? That does sound like a shitty experience though.
Sure. DM me and Iāll give you what they asked. Super straightforward LC mediums + system design.
Thanks! DM'd
Look at their stock. You just dodged a bullet.
You should be glad you didnāt join
I got an offer from them last year. 15000 stock options, costs about 7 bucks to buy and was worth about 13 bucks at the time. I rejected the offer. Sounds like the decision to hang tight at Linkedin was solid and just dodged an enormous bullet.
Not really. The spac split ratio is 6.9. Even at the current price, their share still means $30 before split, which is three times growth than your original offer. And you get additional tax benefits since they are ISO(rsu tax rate 50% in CA vs 15% if you sell in a no tax state) If you are not senior+ at linkedin, it seems a miss to you.
Good to know. I am actually a staff at linkedin. The miss is not as impactful for me.
Hippo interviews are very shitty and biased. I had similar experience with them in past. There are tons of other companies hiring.
Thanks! I donāt believe Iāve ever had a system design interview like this before. The guy was talking very loudly and asking for specific answers. Questions like āwhy would you not write raw SQL at an endpoint?ā, ābeyond sanitizing the query, what would you do?ā
I can relate. Itās good that they rejected you, you donāt want to be working with them. Just move on.
