Was looking for what this may be called and haven’t found anything concrete yet. If you cross reference top 5 highest paying and highest earning studios you get • Sony • Activision/Blizzard • Nintendo • EA • Microsoft Which gives you MENABS or BANSME which is either awkward or funny or both which pretty much describes game dev culture in a nutshell. If you add • Namco Bandai • Ubisoft • Take Two • Square Enix • Konami You get a bit too long for an acronym going for the top 10 earners and payers but you could do • MENABSNBUTTSEK (ridiculously hilarious and preserves letter order for companies) • SUBBASEMENT (the most letters that can be used to create a word in that collection) If you go with just the first letters you get • MANES • MEANS • NAMES • UNMASK NETS • SUNKEN MAST If you’re more interested in the acronym for the most popular or dominant game companies like some other comments suggest, the main drivers of the industry in a way (totally subjective) to me they’d be • Epic • Nintendo • Sony# • Activision/Blizzard • Ubisoft • EA Which would come out as not very flattering acronyms: • UNEASE • NAUSEA • AENEUS (we all know what that sounds like) So there you go. There’s no formal FAANG for the games industry and if there was no matter what way you slice it, it’s pretty awkward or weird (with the exception of MANES) which is probably why nobody has tried to group them together #faang style.
Ah yes nothing better than investing in NAUSEA
Shouldn't Activision/blizzard be included in Microsoft now?
Not yet, but soon hopefully.
MEANS...
Really enjoyed this op, thank you op!!
Where’s Valve? They haven’t made a game in a while but they’re still very prestigious imo
Hey beauty school drop out, go back to high school with that kind of talk kid.
Lol you want a haircut? Just tree fiddy.
Highest earning doesn't mean highest paying, just look at Blizzard for that. And a lot of the studios you listed like Square Enix don't have US engineers, it's mostly localization work over here. The only gaming companies I would really consider top tier for pay, opportunity, and "prestige" are Riot, Epic, Valve, Roblox
Blizzard is weird because they pay 🥜 however, they also throw out huge discretionary bonuses to good performers. but it's not in the contract. I have multiple friends who got 150k, 200k bonuses randomly after a few years.
Roblox?
They have good pay and opportunities
IMO in gaming industry prestige is less about money The most “prestigious” companies are more about the best project/games Like if you worked on say Last of Us or Half Life 2 it would probably be seen as more prestigious than like Roblox even though they pay a lot
Really looking forward to Jedi Survivor 😁
AENEUS lollllll
