Got rejected in final round at Yelp, received call after final interview

I interviewed for an entry-level Full Stack Engineer role and got an update from the recruiter asking me for my number and a convenient time to call to share more insights and set expectations about the next steps, in the call he told me that the team submitted a review for an offer for my application, he also mentioned that there are some candidate's feedback that hasn't been reviewed yet due to team members being sick, told me he would update me by next week. Today I got a rejection from another recruiter at Yelp mentioning the hiring managers decided not to move forward at this time. I don't know there was no specific reason mentioned. I also got a final round rejection from another company today, they also mentioned I was still under consideration just a week ago. Don't know what's happening

Ignore the trolling responses. It’s a brutal market out there and you are competing against many other candidates. They likely found someone who better fit the role or performed better during the interview process. In a better market recruiters are pretty willing to provide feedback even if you were not given an offer. Recruiters are getting slammed right now and they simply don’t have the time. Don’t dwell on it. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Move on and prepare for the next one. You got this.

How are recruiters busy in a down market? Seems like they should be facing layoffs too.

HashiCorp xWTG53 Jan 29

They are which means there are fewer recruiters to manage day to day tasks. Just because companies are conducting layoffs does not mean that hiring is always frozen. In many cases layoffs will open funding for roles in more strategic or higher priority orgs within a company. There are also cases where employees leave on their own amidst layoffs and a company feels the need to backfill. There are so many variables that could lead to hiring continuing after a layoff. When the market is then flooded candidates who were laid off, recruiters become inundated with applications.

It’s rough out there. Competition is fierce even for entry level positions.,All it takes is for one person to provide a negative feedback and you’re out. Like dating, it’s a numbers game. Keep applying.

Sorry to hear OP! Yelp’s hiring has been really slow, and the job market isn’t that great either. The company is also in the middle of org budget talks til February so things might have changed for that role too.
