I'm at my 4 year cliff at big tech, and have not had a great experience. I'm thinking about joining MLB because I love baseball, but it seems to be a significant pay cut and I'll have to adjust my current lifestyle. Has anyone done anything like this? How did it work out? Are you happier? Do you regret it? How did you adjust? What other adjustments might need to be made other than salary-based adjustments? 5 YOE, 270k TC before cliff
What is a cliff?

Never take pay cut if you aren't forced so. You can be a baseball fan rather than a staff.
Everything becomes a job eventually. Id rather make big money and take longer breaks between jobs for passions.
Eventually? What if it's a couple years? Can always leave back to big tech
I think it depends on how big a pay cut, and also depends on your personal situation (kids, goals, lifestyle, etc). Only you can answer this question. Iβd prefer to have a great wlb job, that allows me to pursue what I want.
I'm single no kids, it would probably be like 50k less
50k less doesn't seem too bad if it means doing what you passionately enjoy
Left Google for games. So far, going great! I do make less money (about $50k less) but the work is much more fun. I would say for MLB, look into whether the work actually aligns with what you want to do, itβll vary based on the position.
Tech is not for everyone, go pursue your dreams
