Why did Silicon Valley swing hard right?
Hi Guys, I've been interviewing for a month now for a TPM/Sr TPM role, I tend to clear all the technical rounds and PM-related interviews. But when it comes to the final decision maker (viz VP Engineering, CTO, etc,.) I feel that the interview went good but the results are not positive. When I ask for feedback, I get - You're good but there was another candidate with more aligned experience - The feedback was positive but we're moving ahead with another candidate - Your experience is not aligned with what we are looking for - We cannot share feedback, it just that you didn't make it My question is if that is the case why can't they outright reject me? I spend time to clear 4-5 interviews and then this. It's happened with Oracle, Amazon, GreyOrange, and some startups. What am I doing wrong here? Yoe: 7 | 3 in TPM/PM, 4 in SDE #Interview
Feel yourself lucky not getting Oracle and Amazon. These are toxic company to work for. You will loose your mental health working here. Good luck. Try to have a strong story for each questions. Now you should have a good question bank. Follow STAR format. You have to come confident in VP rounds. Also ask them good questions like what is the direction company is going, why this position is critical, what a successful candidate look like etc. You need to sell yourself in this round. Talk about your achievements and how it relates to the job and what strengths you bring on the table.
And stay away from Oracle and Amazon. These companies don't care about people. Front line managers are spineless and cannot fight for their team. Leaders are morons and have an exclusive club to reward and recognize.
very well said. Upper management don’t care about lower people. They say let them go if they find a better offer, still there are thousands of them to join this company. Middle managers are suffering due to the upper managers attitude. Top layer in Oracle has to change.
Yes I believe I am following star model and am even recoding myself speak to see the way I put things up and confidence level.
Don’t worry about this. I have been on either side of the boat. Many times for senior interviews, they will shortlist 1-2-3 candidates. Offer candidate 1 and keep candidate 2 warm and reject candidate 3. You might have been on 2-3. No worries. consider that they were better candidates than you as per the company’s match making rules. I would say be yourself and you will get your right break.
Thanks man. Made me feel good. :D
Don’t sweat it. TPM interviews are fickle beasts. Don’t let it get to you.
Is the last round behavioural / cultural fit interview? Maybe they're looking for someone with a different work approach or someone who can talk through it better.
It's mostly with someone who's higher management. Mostly it's behavioral and walks through my experience.
Yeah exactly, practice answering behavioural questions from this list https://www.themuse.com/advice/interview-questions-and-answers Or maybe it's just not a good cultural fit
