I am currently a Pricing Analyst for Applied Materials. I graduated from an MSDS program this June, and aligned with my manager that my future work will be solely focused on data science projects. While I am excited about this, I would like to have my title changed to reflect my new role within the team. My manager was not receptive to this idea, citing difficulty with HR, etc. and not really understanding the need to do this. Does anyone have some good advice on how to proceed, or what I can do to change his mind? I have drafted a short email that outlines justification for this request: "I have summarized the reasons why I would like to have my business title changed to Data Scientist below: * To accurately reflect my role in future data science projects, which will be my primary focus moving forward with the team * To support my desired career path and begin progressing down the data scientist track * To be fairly and competitively compensated as a data scientist * To reflect my graduate school data science education" Full disclosure: I am currently searching for data science jobs both internally and externally, but if I can't land anything I will want to have my title changed to data scientist to have more relevant experience on my resume for future interviews. Worst case scenario, I just change my title on my resume and LinkedIn, although this does not feel quite right. tl;dr: How to convince my manager to change my title to Data Scientist? #datascience
