Raytheon vs Northrop Grumman

asking for a friend: I’m a new grad and got an offer as systems engineer I at Raytheon in Arizona (80k yearly with sign on bonus and relocation). I just received an offer at Northrop Grumman in California for the Pathways Program as an associate systems engineer (85k yearly no bonuses). what do you guys think of these two companies? I’m leaning towards Northrop for the rotational pathways program, but cost of living is so expensive in CA that I’m wondering if it’s worth it. Can any employees offer insight into these companies? Are these companies pretty similar in terms of job stability and growth? #northropgrumman #ngc #raytheon #systemsengineer #engineer

Where in California? I did a $78k job in San Diego and lived just fine. Just moved back to the East Coast a few months ago, so this is very recent.

Neither, stop contributing to the military industrial complex

Okay "Fidelity Investments" at least the defense sector drives tech innovation instead of just accumulating wealth for the 0.1%

Putin is doing his part at strengthening U.S. defense spending.

I want out of defense and have been looking for a tech job but am stuck atm because the tech world is on fire. Currently at NGC. Have met 2 EX-Raytheon employees in the last month. Raytheon Missile and Defense. Both independently shared that the company is being squeezed for profit by the company which bought Raytheon out a couple yrs back. One of them said the chaos was so bad that he had to juggle two separate company computer login accounts. That being said, NGC isn’t much better. It’s okay. If I had to pick between them you might be better off at NG since it hasn’t been recently bought out. Do yourself a favor and save yourself from pit which is defense if you can. Underpaid, always short staffed, old tools, Coasters, poor management, bad IT, and so on…. But if you need a job I get it. Don’t stay long. You can do better. As soon as this market turns around I’m out.

We had about 4-5 people from Raytheon join our team over a 5 month span. They all were saying that it’s a dumpster fire but like others hav pointed out, NGC isn’t that much better. The company has been working to hire more engineers but to me the work (working a sustainment contract) is boring but I know the pathways program helps rotate you around so you get exposed to different contracts.

If you ever get to an EMD phase program… hold onto your butt. It’s rough. You might get worked to death. Management is always fighting with having enough cleared people.

If i had to choose between the two, with a gun pointed at my head, ngc. Not because ngc is much better, but raytheon sometimes do not even give the inflation annual bonuses (quoted from ex raytheon colleagues), let alone management are more hesitant to honor ot work and 9/80. Heard benefits are shittier at rtx too, whilw ngc benefits are down the drain. Culture wise, both are toxic, bureaucratic, dmv like bs, where success is determined by bsing skills, rather than engr skills. Its like govt work without pension. Job security is there, but no career growth. Find something better if you can.

This is an interesting thread, I was at NGC for 5 years, until 2022, I am now at Raytheon

What location for NG? How are you liking Raytheon in comparison?

Northrop Grumman shzuUejJs Apr 17, 2023

Raytheon is worse. Pays very little. I'd say NG has more perks

Tbh I never heard anything good about Pathways coming from people in the program.
