Verizon Media Reputation

Been hearing mediocre-poor things about Verizon Media (mainly from Blind lol). I honestly don't know too much about their history, but what is the reason for assuming it's a dying company? What's their vision/plan to improve? And if anyone has any insight, what's the reputation for SWEs at Verizon Media when seen on a resume? #tech

They have layoffs every year. Consistently šŸ˜‚

Do we know if it's affecting all departments? Is engineering heavily affected by this?

Yahoo XhOh84 Jan 30, 2021

Engineering layoffs didn't affect anyone I knew this year. Yahoo was a loss making company so independent yahoo had frequent layoffs which continued into verizon media as part of the execs idea was clearly to cut it into profitability/make use of overlaps with AOL. Mostly the merger drama is over now.

Good place for people to rest and little vest. Tc is okay (senior around 240)

I joined a couple of years ago. I really like it.

Verizon Media is a mish mash of two companies Aol and Yahoo. And there have internal fights between two parties. However we seem to have start putting things in past and see what can we do moving forward. From recent Verizon announcement, Verizon Media recorded its first YOY growth since it was combined with Verizon which is a positive news. Some of its businesses are doing exceptionally good.

Tc is ok but work is good in a lot of teams. If you are someone starting your career and could not crack top tier companies this is not a bad place to learn for 2-3 years

Why is that? ... layoffs on peopleā€™s mind? Also are all divisions affected or just Yahoo and AOL? What about the CDN division - does that fall under these two and is it affected as well or is it a separate entity and is unaffected?

Why do you want to enter uncertainty when you have a choice

Yahoo lolxiao Aug 25, 2021

Answering your questions in order: 1. Yes, layoffs are on peopleā€™s minds with this acquisition, which is expected when major changes like these happen. 2. Whole of Verizon Media has been sold, which includes Yahoo, AOL, TechCrunch, Engadget, etc. 3. CDN is ā€œaffectedā€ as well, sold along with the rest of the company.
