Expedia vs Citrix
Expedia: Base: 110k Location: Seattle, Washington Position: SDE-I RSUs: 15k over 4years I guess? Very unclear wording Citrix Base: 108k Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida Position: SWE-II RSUs: ~44k over 3 years, it's in terms of stock units, not amount YOE: 1yr, backeng engineer + good platform internship My thinking: Expedia has red flags right now, but the fact that they haven't rescinded yet keeps me hopeful. However my dream offer from tier-1 was rescinded recently so I am feeling apathetic right now. They can rescind anytime they want to. Citrix seems like a stable company but I am worried I would be pegged into B2B systems related companies, and it would be a difficult transition to B2C companies in future, where I am more interested. Also, the fact that it is in Florida might limit my opportunities. The fact that I don't have teams allotted in both the companies adds more to the confusion. I have worked for both product and platform, and find product more interesting, but have strong skills in platform too. Another fact is that I will be working on visa. I am slightly inclined towards Expedia but would really appreciate a more experienced opinion with a long term perspective. More importantly with getting back in game for tier-1 companies.

That salary would go a lot further in Fort Lauderdale than Seattle. So I would take that into consideration. Also, Expedia was hurting way before covid. They (Barry Diller) announced 20% work force reduction before covid happened. Covid just made things even worse and long term for them. So, I’d think about that long and hard.
12% work force reduction pre COVID, but the point is valid. Travel is in a world of hurt. I am surprised we are giving new offers, so presumably the role is considered critical to fill. Also note, everyone is eligible for target bonus (conceptually, this year, maybe dont hold your breath for it.....). If other role was also seattle, that might be a safer play but a lot more opportunities in seattle (and i would much prefer south Florida weather!)
@finaleo, even I am surprised since I was offered this position the next day of the mass layoffs. Financially Citrix sounds better but I am wondering if I would be limited in opportunities in future because I would be working in a very specific domain
Stay away from Expedia. They have announced furloughs, and wage cuts. No t much future there for several years!
If money factor is not considered, would it be better compared to Citrix as a stepping stone to tier-1?

What's wrong with B2B companies? At the end it's still individual people using your product.

It will not be more difficult, same bar interview, some LC and System Design. FAANG companies will interview you the same way and you have to provide good answers no matter where you come from. Coming from B2B companies will not hurt or help at all, unless you are doing some niche OS level stuff that doesn't give you good general experience. I knew some people in Citrix, they have changed to other companies without a problem

Your pay check will be worth so much more in Florida. Seattle has high living cost. And Travel sector is really hurt by covid and travel(Expedia) revenue may suffer for awhile. This will impact your bonus.

If it’s a factor, Expedia has the highest beautiful women per capita ratio of any company in the USA
If you can tell why that factor is important, I will surely consider it :D
