democrats changed america in 1965 and lied about it

In 1965, Kennedy led the drive for immigration reform in the Senate. Although some Irish groups lobbied against the bill, Kennedy said the current system of national quotas that favored northern Europe violated the American values. “This bill goes to the very central ideals of our country,” he said during floor debate. “Our streets may not be paved with gold, but they are paved with the promise that men and women who live here – even strangers and new newcomers – can rise as fast, as far as their skills will allow, no matter what their color is, no matter what the place of their birth.” In response to critics, he also famously claimed that the change to a system opening immigration to all nations and favoring family unification would not change the mix of the country. "The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs,” he said during the Senate debate. In retrospect, the mix of immigrants, legal and illegal, shifted dramatically in favor of Latin America and Asia – a fact that Kennedy, in later years, would attribute to illegal immigration.

It's five friggin paragraphs, don't be a dolt.

Roku de Vil Nov 9, 2019

Do you think Northern Europeans are the only ones who should live in the US?

Netflix sunnyta OP Nov 9, 2019

No, but getting a lot of low skilled workers drastically changing cultures and values of the country is not fair to the citizens or to the future of this land

Roku de Vil Nov 9, 2019

I see where you're coming from but at the same time wasn't it low skilled European workers who were immigrating in the past? Sounds like it's more about race now.

Robert F Kennedy? Ted Kennedy? JFK was dead already. Anyway, I thought conservatives didn’t like quotas 🤷‍♂️ The 1965 act limited Western Hemisphere immigrants. It also banned lgbtq immigrants and prioritized middle class professional immigrants. Sounds like conservatives should love it. I say... get rid of it. Open borders.

Obviously not JFK

Open borders plus welfare system equals you pay 90% of your income to others.

When did you ask the Democrats about it and what exactly was their lie ?

OpenTable Meliodas Nov 10, 2019

There were lots of bills passed that legislative session that impacted America. Trying to tie it to just immigration makes me suspect that you have ulterior motives.

Netflix sunnyta OP Nov 10, 2019

Huh? We are talking a specific bill here, what are you even talking about??

OpenTable Meliodas Nov 10, 2019

How have you isolated the changes to this particular bill?

Groupon sleepy Nov 12, 2019

1965 opened America for Asian immigrants. That’s a good thing for me :)
