hi guys, when you get promoted, do you add a new section to your resume? that would show the date you got promoted. I am hesitant about this, since I feel quite behind that I just recently got to indeed L2 (msft 61ish) with 5 YOE. Would that hurt my chances to get higher level offers from other companies, if they see my current level progress? #microsoft #google #facebook #amazon
Yes, no, depends.
Counterpoint: it shows you’re progressing. No one really cares about the rate unless it’s WAY off. 15 years before a promo or something.
If you indicate that you were L2 for 5 years but you only were L2 for less than 5 years, you would be LYING on your resume. If you got a promo after 6 months and you e been there for 5 years - sure, you can just say you were L2. But any longer and it’s super dishonest. Then they will ask “why is he L2 for so long?”
I think put Software Engineer as the title then in the description say “promoted to L2/whatever during this time”
