I was impacted by amazon layoffs in April. By end of June I moved to B1/B2 from H1. In the last 3 months I have given quite a few interviews and did well in most of them. I also got 3 verbal offers (Walgreens, Citibank and VMware) but none of them really got converted. I have an offer from a few companies in India. Rippling, Harman International and Salesforceâs negotiation is going on. The highest offer I have is for 88L INR ($106K). I am hoping salesforce matches it. I lost both my parents in covid. My wife is supportive. I have a kid. I have been staying in US for 10 years. I never worked in India and grew in a protective household. I am sure with 88L I can afford the luxury I want. My friends and cousins have scared me about toxic work culture and long working hours. The manager who interviewed me in Uber India (got rejected) told me itâs an exaggeration but I am still a bit nervous given how much of an introvert and soft spoken I am. Can anyone let me know their experience moving back and working in India. Compensation wise I think 88L is too good and even another 10-15L extra will not make a huge difference so I will happily accept Salesforce if they match or even pay me 5-10% less. Would be great if you know some good locations to stay in Bangalore (good schools, hospitals, crowd etc). Planning to buy an apartment or may be a house/row house/villa if it is close to office (I guess I will have wfh until December). L5 SDE 270K before layoffs.

You'll say goodbye to whatever life you have with rippling.
Yes not really keen on it. It was an offer I recently got.
Sorry to hear about your parents. Hereâs some blunt, actionable advice. First, whatâs your net worth and how much of it can you take back with you? Second, think about this from the choices/decisions you HAVE to make. You donât have any jobs lined up in the US. So it doesnât matter it your Indian offer has a toxic culture because you have no choice but to pursue it at the moment. So donât think about second/third order effects but first order decision making. As for Salesforce, itâs a very good company and after the dust settles, youâll be able to easily transfer to the Bay Area if you decide you want to come back to the US. 88L tc in India will buy you whatever you want so donât worry about the money. My last piece of advice would be to not put down roots too quickly in Bangalore ie donât buy but rent initially etc. If you decide to leave soon-ish itâll be much easier that way
Good advice đ
Thank you. Good advice. The only reason I am looking for an apt or house is because I have no roof of my own lol. I sold my house here. I have no house in India. I have all my net worth here. Itâs around 1.3M including my 401K (20%). 40% in amazon stocks at its current value and rest in cash which I invested in T-Bills for now. Should mature in a month. A large part of it was from the net proceeds from my house. I am not worried about TC at all. I would have been happy even with 65. I am not very motivated now. I donât know why frankly. Sometimes I get suicidal thoughts as well. Mostly because after loss of my parents I have started feeling empty. I had someone backing and advising me whenever I was low. I have lost that now. My wife is amazing but she left a few months ago so that I could concentrate on job hunting. I am taking therapy which has made me much better. Hope India fixes me. Have seen enough already.
88L is very good to live in BLR. You can afford house help even if you work gets busy. Hire people to drop kids at school. Easy home delivery of healthy home made food available everywhere in BLR for few days a week when you both are busy. WLB can be managed for sure. It wonât be like USA where you log out at 5. But if you can see the value of other things , you can be happy . If you donât see the value of staying in india and in BLR, you will only see negative things everyday and you will be miserable. So adjust your expectations accordingly. I am from BLR and I wonât have any issue going back at 88L salary. Good luck
How did you convert H1 to b1 ?
I got help from an attorney. Itâs technically not converting. Its a new visa application
Sorry to hear about your parents. Life has to go on and don't get into depressed mode, time will heal. You have a family to support and look forward to what is ahead. With no choices left, come to India, don't stress out too much even if Salesforce is not happening. Salesforce is not that fancy as it is hyped, it does not have a great WLB as claimed. I'm not saying it is bad, but if it does not work, don't think too much about it. You will settle well here. As others advised, don't buy anything now. Soon things will open up and you may have a choice to go back if you don't like. Real estate is anyways all time high and not sure if it can go further and mostly will saturate here. Coming to 88 lakhs, I doubt that TC will get you anything that you want, given the COL at Bangalore. 1 cr is not anymore a TC which is luxury. Rents are not affordable, standard 2 bhk is touching minimum 50k. Schools etc are way more expensive. However, it is pretty good for your age ( based on yeo). All the best!!
OP did you apply for jobs in india using LinkedIn? How did you find the interview process? Was it leetcode heavy. Iâd appreciate some tips. Wish you luck for whatever lies ahead for you!
Hi op any update on your situation??
Sorry about your parents and congrats on the offers op.
