eBay Vs Amazon; Which one to choose and why? eBay : Product Manager (Trust and Safety) , Business Development and Strategy, San Francisco Bay Area Amazon: Sr. Program Manager (Transportation Fulfillment) (Role is same as PM-T but title is not!!), Seattle Area Both roles TC is almost the same. I'd like to collect your thoughts on following areas, 1) Which firm (and it's business) is more stable during pandemic times? 2) Which firm has highly like to lay off people, based on market situations and company culture. 3) Any other thoughts or different viewpoints/angles I should consider. Thanks in advance for your time and responses! Current TC: 210K
eBay has way better culture. eBay is doing really good.
just bought something from amzn today, but can't remember last time i bought from ebay
Buy something today and then hopefully you will remember.
1. Amazon but I guess eBay must be doing okay as well 2. Culture at Amazon is a joke. At eBay, probably better. 3. Go to Amazon if the TC is same. If you want to be in the Bay Area, negotiate harder
Amazon is definitely the most stable during this pandemic. Even if Amazon.com hits some speed bumps along the way fighting the virus, AWS dominates the cloud and demand is only accelerating because of it. BTW, all of AWS profits get reinvested into Amazon. I can only imagine what kind of powerhouse AWS would be if that was instead reinvested into the AWS division.
Would you agree that, some bumpy cycle on supply chain will not effect on rock solid demand factor (perhaps even amplifies) from its customers, and that would make it more stable business domain?
Sure, I mean anythings possible in today's market, but I wouldn't worry about Amazons stability overall. Any negative impact to the retail side will probably be negated by the other divisions especially AWS. Plus Amazon is all about the long-term game over short-term. That's why Bezos told shareholders to take a seat recently. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/amazons-ceo-tells-investors-if-youre-shareowner-you-may-want-to-take-a-seat-as-he-explains-why-the-company-will-spend-entirety-of-4-billion-profit-2020-04-30
1. Both are stable. Apple is more stable I guess with that cash 2. Amzn culture can be toxic in some teams , also PIP culture. Not sure about your team. 3. eBay talent bar is low in general than Amazon. People keep moving from eBay the amzn all the time. Reverse is rare. Amzn stock growth was awesome last 5 years. I would also suggest to make decision based on your Interviewers and future manager.
Great input! Thanks!
Amazon, look no further. Retail space is shaken not just in pandemic but that was the case since mid 2019. Amazon is lot more stable than eBay. You will hear a lot of speculation that eBay is doing good but that is not a complete truth. eBay has hit so much of rock bottom that if business beat expectations by some margin that becomes like a story to celebrate for eBay but in reality it is far from even making a inch of progress. If someone praise about eBay culture, ask them how eBay culture deal with top to bottom insecurity with every qtr lay-off? Their Past CEO have to assure in all hands that this qtr there will be no lay off or less or not in blah blah division... eBay folks use to celebrate that as a good relieving news. Honestly you don’t need to take a U turn.
Interesting to know insider angel. Thanks for sharing!
FYI - Amazon has Product Manager - Technical as a separate role and separate pay band. So the kool aid that Program Manager Technical is same role is sales speak
Thanks! Nice to know.
Having worked at both companies, Amazon by far. Incredible learning, super smart, driven people and amazing impact.
What's your background look like? Program Manager is glorified role I think. PM T is totally different and they work with software teams.
Start a poll my guy !
I guess little late for this one. Certainly a considerable alternative. Thanks!!
