Thereās going to be hiring in growth areas. People being laid off can try for those openings. By the end of the year the number of employees will be the same as that before layoffs.
This is actually an awesome way to do restructuring. These people are working on things that the company no longer puts value in keeping. I stead of just laying them off, theyāre offering to let them transition to something else in the company or take the severance. If headcount isnāt affected then itās not a direct layoff.

You're assuming the board isn't being disingenuous about the intended retraining opportunities, or that the layoffs will be distributed equitably.
