Hello there! I'm currently analyzing joining Meta's Reality Labs (Europe), they want me to join given my C++ knowledge, but I lack the 3D Engines background, HM said it's fine, that they will give me time to learn. But I'd like to know honest opinions about this situation, and if you think this is a good idea or will it lead to burn-out? I'd really appreciate your comments regarding general work-life Balance in this Team in general (what's the work expectation in this team? standard 35-40 hrs?) Thank you, -J #meta #metaverse #realitylabs #ar #vr #swe
Is this the test infra team under reality labs? Which team is it?
XR Tech > Presence Platform Team. Why?
I think you’ll have a steep learning curve. Onboarding takes 3 months more or less, however it does not mean you can sit and just learn, I guess you’ll be expected to step in and help out in some fire. The team does not have prestige though in the rest of meta for being a shitshow so think about it. If you see some value for your cv, then definitely worth it.

I do see some value for it in my CV of course, but in the end I'd prefer a standard Infrastructure Team if that means I'll be able to perform better. Could you elaborate a bit more on what are the implications of it being "a shitshow"? How can this affect newcomers like me? Thank you for your answer.
It does, but it’s also constantly shat on internally for being a total shitshow.
It’s true. Our internal Blind just shits on RL and Boz constantly.
And it’s with good reason — I’m a former RL C++ scientist.
