Some devs received a call from a recruiter who knew about it before they did the day it was announced (via email). The recruiter said that the response rate for when devs reply to them was way up since then. Hilariously, they were also told to mass recruit BofA employees by their managers. They listed all of the typical reasons that an out-of-touch corporation would give as justification to force all employees back. They also keep planning ice cream parties once per month as if that makes up for having to lose 300+ hours of one's life every year to sit in traffic. The HR email said that everyone wanted to come back to the office, and they are just helping employees make that dream come true. Yet, evidence suggests less than ten people on a floor of 300+ cubicles. It seems evident that more than 10/300 people have been there if people truly wanted to come back, right? What would you do if you worked there but didn’t want to go back?
I will wait for the constant harassment from management. Please go back in please! Until then I’m busy enough at home.
I just told my manager to expect a minimum 10 hour drop in work per week if that is to be expected.
you mean maximum?
No I mean minimum 10 hours. Could be more. 45 minute drive to and from the office. 30 minutes to get ready in the morning and make a lunch. That’s 2hrs a day which equates to 10 hours.
Hard pass on spending 2-3hrs per day commuting
I would recommend leaving BofA and get a new fully remote role. BofA is too stubborn, it might take them a while to wise up. In the meantime they will feel the pain of losing tech talent until they change their ways.
I got a recent offer as software engineer. No mention of office presence in the offer letter. How often do you have to be in office?
Why lose 300+ hours in traffic ? Move closer to office unless you are saying that the office moved locations after you accepted the offer.
Why should moving have to be an option when we’ve been very successful WFH? I think I’d rather leave than live in the city.
Rents have gone up but salaries did not keep up. Not to mention the gas prices. Moving closer would mean higher rent for most people. Only option left is to leave if this plan is really enforced.
