Product Management at MBB - Thoughts?
I recently came across a few PM roles at MBB. Titles include Lead Product Manager at BCG, Product Manager - Digital Marketing at McK, Product Manager - New Ventures at Bain. Does anyone know what PMs at consulting firms do and whether it compares to being at a tech company? And, are PMs treated like consulting staff or like back-office staff? Only consultants are treated like consultants. These firms often offer business software solutions that are packaged to clients. The PM would basically support these. The role is not client facing so in a consulting firm it is by nature treated second class. it does not compare to tech companies because: 1. Consultants try to leave MBB to get into PM rather than internal transfer 2. These products dont have anywhere near the scale of big tech consumer products 3. MBB pays all cash, but the big bucks in PM come from RSUs Itโs a nice name on the resume but wonโt give you the skills or experience to crack big tech PM interviews since it is B2B
