How well known is Red Hat in the tech industry? My question as I start to look for jobs is how well known is the company and how does it look on one's resume to tech recruiters at FAANG, Microsoft etc.
I'm a huge RHEL fan, despite the decapitation of CentOS
Despite the main offerings getting long in the tooth, I feel RH is still very well regarded in the tech industry. My recruiter emails went way up since I joined, with regular FAANG requests. It’s also a great place to get exposure on major open source projects and make a name for yourself in communities that can land you in a much higher paying spot (if you want).
I like them
I’ve talked to many companies , interviewed with many, and always heard good things about Red Hat. Although one thing I notice is many new grads don’t even consider Red Hat in their would be destination list. Red Hat needs to improve that. Ex Red Hat here.
RH alumni seem smart. RH TC seems 🥜.
Red Hat Alumni here. TC is shit but I loved every second of working there.
OP any chance you’re willing to refer me to red hat? Seems like the perfect place for me
Me: “I work at Red Hat” Old person: “(wheels spin) Hey that stock made me a lot of money!” Middle-aged non-technical person: blank stare. Non-technical person under 40: Linux? Everyone else: “IBM?”
Not good anymore. The consensus is that brain drain happened 4-5 years ago and most don’t consider it as a feeder company for faang. For example Microsoft, amazon are considered good companies for potential talent for google, Facebook, apple, etc. My gf works in tech recruiting
After MAGA, all Red Hats have had their reputations tarnished. 🤣
