Any idea on the future prospects of Wyze? I have an offer that I’m still contemplating on accepting or not. They offered 180k base and 4000 stock options that I am finding hard to quantify. If their valuation is 1billion (read some online blog) that puts the options wort around 250k. My TC in that case would be 240k. Seems like a step down from my current TC of 250k. Am I missing something, the recruiter gives vague answers. Current level: 63; offered level at wyze: SDE3
It does sound like a step down right now. There is no way to tell what those options would be worth in the future, so it's a risk you'll have to take.
Negotiate for 250k base. Don't take a paycut to join startups. The options are with $0 till successful ipo and fully vested and sold.
Also, vague answers are red flags.
$1B valuation? Seems very high.
Don't join. Loads of work and not gonna IPO anytime soon, old employees are leaving not a good sign.
Why no IPO anytime soon? it's surprising to me they've only gotten to series A. Is series B in the works? I'd imagine their revenue must be pretty good considering their product array
Already series B, but because interest rates is increasing and all stocks are going down, it’s no longer good time to go IPO.
Don’t join. Too much tech debt. No work life balance. Engineers can’t get enough respects because no founders has tech background. So you know, you will face to a lot of ridiculous requests and unreasonable goals and deadlines. They will squeeze you to death then through you away. Long way to go for the management team to change the current toxic culture. So many employees got burnouts and left.
The issue with Wyze is lack of experienced engineering leadership. The CTO is utterly clueless and makes irritating excuses regarding to why their oldest and most talented engineers left the company.

It's pretty weird to continue selling the product for 3 years that has a known major issue, and brush off the issue even after discounting the product. However, this "remote" access requires you to actually be on the local network, so this vulnerability is only possible, (1), if your WiFi is unprotected, (2), you allow attacker on your WiFi/LAN, (3), maybe if you have a public IP address for all devices on your network, without a firewall. So, no, you can't just get to a random Wyze camera in a random home.
