Hi everyone, I need some help deciding. I live in SoCal and have been offered the 2025 50e at msrp which with my build premium package sport trim and driver assist come out to about 90k (with taxes). While at the dealership there’s some offers right now on existing inventory of 2024 x40i for about 7-15k off msrp. I want the 50e for performance reasons and it also has air suspension. I typically drive short commutes as well so plug in may make sense here. But cost difference on x40i assuming 7k off msrp is 13k here which seems to offset the savings in gas from the 50e. There’s no notable changes between 2025 and 2024 What car should I get? Tc 450
We got the base 2024 e50 in Sept. Love the car. Was also able to get 5% off MSRP and I hear electrics are discounted more now. You might be able to get better than MSRP if you look around
Thanks was this in the Bay? I don’t mind the road trip. Any reason why you didn’t get the 40i?
This is great, exact problem I have haha
Have you checked out ordering directly from BMw with the exact specs you want?
No, I’ll give this a try I’ve been ordering on local dealerships websites instead and didn’t know this was an option
Never be the beta tester for first generation vehicles. Wait couple years for 50e reliability data.
I’d build the 50e to the specs you want. I have the 50e and it’s amazing!
You can always negotiate. While you won't be eligible for federal tax credits if you purchase because of the high price, check into state credits for the plugin. You may also still be eligible for something if you lease. The dealership will be happy to tell you about it if you are. If your commute is short, or has a lot of stop and go, get the plugin.
Skip the air suspension. They break early and are expensive to repair
Go with the stock one, you can get 5K more off easily with some negotioation and stuff like extended warranty etc. And stay away from hybrids, they put the batteries under the rear seats, the rear passengers have less headroom or legroom due to this.
Cost wise, inventory on 50e is limited so not a lot of leverage. I’m able to get 6.5k off 40i right now by calling around but trying to get closer 10-15% off
Try the seats first. My x5 has the worst seats ever in terms of comfort/pain. It's not that they are not comfortable, they are actually painful.
7k on a 90k car is less than an 8% premium. At your salary I think having the car you actually want is worth that extra cost.
The x40i and 50e have a 5k difference on msrp already due to 50e being a PHEV so with 7k off the x40i it seemed like the cost savings in gas won’t offset the cost on the 50e. But like you said the car I actually want for performance is the 50e, maybe I’m just being cheap!
Won’t you get a tax credit for the PHEV in Cali? Might be cheaper in the long run, too.
