Hey all, I've been freelancing on the side for years to supplement my income but since November I've been laid off from my day job so I've decided to take this as an opportunity to push completely into working for myself and starting an official design agency! A few bullets: - 12+ years of experience in product design - worked with big names like Cisco, Salesforce, Staples and more - worked with companies of all sizes from startups of all stages to Fortune 500 Enterprises - offering services for both product design and fractional design leadership for things like design systems, team building, design ops, etc. - US based designer with fast turn around times Check out my site and feel free to DM me if any of the services align with needs you have. Thanks! https://www.gammuttdesign.com/ #startup
the cost's are super prohibitive.
What would you pay if you were running a growing startup? Ideally on seed round or higher. I'm totally open to feedback on verbiage, marketing, etc. Some other ideas I'm playing with are charging weekly vs monthly as well.
too expensive. look at upwork
I'm on Upwork. My top client pays $125/hr my lowest $95. My goal is to move people to monthly and not hourly. $6,000/mo isn't crazy, it's what several other designers at my level are charging successfully. I know because we talk regularly about starting our own agencies. I've made that with 2 clients so far but it hasn't been consistent with the up and down of tech so the trick is trying to stabilize things for predictable cash flow. Reputable agencies all over the country are charging twice as much for the same or inferior work. If you go places like Toptal, Braintrust, Contra, Pallet my prices are at the higher end but not unusual with my level of experience and big company experience.

$6k a month now? I am on the site, which indicates $5k a month. You have to be accurate and consistent on numbers. Otherwise, I would have concerns as a client. I would use the upwork model over this, but ... You sound like this is a better approach, so why ask blind folks? Go with it. Good luck.
Sorry having blind refresh issues. 6k is my goal but yes the site currently sits at 5k. Selfishly I'm trying to promote the site a bit but I'm also looking for feedback. So you'd rather pay 125/hr on Upwork then? At 12 hr/wk that gets you to 6k but you like the flexibility of sometimes more and sometimes less?
Dude - I love it. Such a smart model, I’ve seen others do the same who I know are very successful. Charge what you’re worth. The only question I have is how do you map out PTO on a model like this? I’ve always been curious how that works.
Well much like when you work for a company communication is key. So likely I'd just try to communicate ahead of time and probably discount that week from the subscription. Ideally as I build relationships with clients they won't care that I'm gone a week but I think the courteous thing to do is offer to discount it and see what they say.
If I’m paying monthly, I expect services that whole month. I have a long lasting relationship with Netflix, it still can’t go on vacation for a week.
Good website and description of your services. Does the Basic/Pro access give the client dedicated access to you, or are you going to take multiple projects?
The site looks top notch. All the best!
Thanks!
