Can anyone share mid-level eng comp or offer from CZI and/or Khan Academy? Do they offer competitive comp package as the top tier companies? I’m considering working somewhere that is contributing to the society instead of making some founders rich. But does that mean I have to take a pay cut?
I think you’ll be taking a pay cut at any non profit. Places like czi and khan probably pay really well for non profits. I would guess that salaries would be comparable to tech companies. But there’s no way they can get even close to TC of top tech companies.
For technical roles, the TC is lower especially compared to the large companies, but salary is usually competitive or higher. Benefits are pretty good, and I have to say that everyone feels well taken care of in the current situation- the stability has been a huge plus. I'll dm you more details, some comp adjustments were announced recently that are exciting.
Wow salary significant higher? That’s impressive
The gap is def larger for lower levels and lessens as you get higher, so I'm not sure if that's still true for more senior roles.
I think it may also depend on which initiative/team you're working on. I'm happy with mine, but I've heard some horror stories about others.
Comp at Khan Academy is 50 percentile for Silicon Valley and a cost of living modifier for remote workers (usually a bit lower). As a remote worker, I make more than I can in my home town.
Would you mind sharing how much you make?
Salary + bonus puts me around $210k per year, outside of the Bay Area. But with non-profit, no equity. Great WLB tho.
khan is better because it’s truly good and sal khan is inspirational, he created something great
