WLB and tech stack vs TC and company name for early career growth? Current Job: Integral Ad Science Associate Data Engineer TC: 87.5k Pros: More interesting tech: AWS, Spark, Airflow, Python, stuff to play around with in AWS, Amazing WLB, developer driven, I want to be a Machine Learning Engineer one day, Data Engineers in demand Cons: Weak TC New Job Offer: Salesforce(Tableau) AMTS (Junior SWE) in Product Supportability TC: 203k 1st year 168k recurring Pros: Higher TC, recognizable name, better peers Cons: Supposedly crappy outdated tech in C++, less to learn, driven by non-technical managers YOE 0
I wouldn't turn down double TC. You don't have to move, right? If the job doesn't go well, you can look for a more interesting position with similar TC Edit: I guess you can also see if they'll give you a good bump at your current position, if you tell them about the offer
Don't have to move. It would be great if they would give me a bump and i'll try to do that but it probably won't work
I would say pick stack! You will have way better TCs later on. You could also try good name with stack. It is too early to pick TC over stack.
At what YOE should one pick TC over stack?
0 YOE. Literally none of the top companies care about your experience in a certain stack. Top companies want to hire people who are all around good and can adapt. Cheap companies want to pick someone who already knows the stack and can immediately contribute
C++ is crappy tech? Wow, new grad these days hold standards high
What do you consider crappy tech? COBOL? Perl? C++ < C < Rust
I don’t know, I don’t specialize in any language, and I don’t know enough about any tech stack to say one is objectively crappy. It seems there are always some products using some tech that’s considered old but still useful.
Bruh looks like you messed up the pole choices.
it's a misconception that low TC mean better WLB. i know companies that beats the zit out of employees with peanuts as salary. Until you join you're not gonna know what kind of team you will work with. so better to work in a better brand for higher TC and take that risk so atleast you will have some reason for justification.
This is such a dumb question.
Which did you pick? I would pick Salesforce
What’s the location for the IAS offer if you don’t mind sharing?
Go to Google for WLB and brand name
