I spoke to a startup last week. Their base pay was around 150-200k. It sounded alright till here. Guess what, their equity is 70% of base as per recruiter. So, she said, assuming you get max base of 200k, you would get equity of 140k /4yrs.

Not all startups. 140k/4yrs isn't generous by any means. But it shows how the market is right now.
It’s only $16k bonus/yr.
Base is a bit lower than tech. And unlike other tech companies there is no equity comp most likely. But possibly tempting to join for a month or so just to merge yubikey support and then leave.

Not sure if you're still looking for answers but in case you are, here you go: What you see listed is bsae pay. In regards to the salary range, what that indicates there is that they are flexible on job level for hiring. 100k is the starting band for a "manager" at Schwab. In quotes b/c this is the title equivalent to a Sr Associate at other firms. Max of the band means that they're prob willing to go up to a Director level position, but unlikely you hit the top of the band. Manager and Sr. Manager have 15% bonus, Director is 25% bonus. WLB: highly dependent on the group. I happen to love the group I'm in specifically b/c of WLB. I work OT at my discretion, and it's never expected. Work stays at work, I am never on call, and I never have to answer on vacation/after hours. Not sure about software engineering though, sorry!

The bands are always only base pay. But it’s extremely rare to get max band offer. There’s no room for growth
So its just marketing but they wont pay for it?
Every level at every company has a min and a max. No one gets max including existing employees. If you’re at max the only way to get a raise is if the bands are adjusted. But then people will ask why aren’t you promoted
